Safari in Central Africa Republic
Safaria operate in two areas one a savannah region and the other a forest region. The giant or Lord Derby eland and most other species on the list live in the savannah area, a region of 2.5 million hectares with just 5 small villages each attached to a hunting camp. 2500 kilometres of track are maintained by Safaria to permit ease of movement in the concession.
The forest area is where the bongo, giant forest hog and dwarf forest buffalo live. It usually takes two safaris to get a giant eland and a bongo. It is sometimes possible to combine the two on a longer safari with the additional cost of an extra charter flight between the areas. |

Safaria is owned and run by Jean-Louis Laborde and he and his family own vineyards in France and Hungary. Monsieur Laborde has been operating in the CAR for over 25 years and his camps and equipment are of the highest quality. Materials, wine and some types of food are imported each year from France by ship to Duala in the Cameroon and then by “road” to the camps. This operation is itself an adventure safari.
The season is from January to June.
