Red Stag stalking in Scotland

corrour stags in snow

The season extends from 1st July to 20th October. Some cull stags are shot in July and August at a lower price when still in velvet, but most are shot in September and October as mature trophies.

Most hunters like to shoot from one to three stags and there are two ways to do this:

  • Hunt for 5 or 6 days in the first 3 weeks of September
  • Hunt for a few days in the last week of September and the first three weeks of October during the rut. At this time many places can shoot 10 or more stags in a week with a single professional hunter (stalker) and such weeks are best shared by 2 or 3 friends.

The best value accommodation for a single hunter is a small hotel or pub, groups of three or more can keep the price down by using a self catered cottage, which is let by the week.

There are many charming and well appointed Sporting Lodges throughout Scotland which can be hired for accommodation whilst enjoying sporting activities.

In the rut (last week of September to 20th October) I can cater for large groups of 6 to 10 hunters wishing to stalk 2 or 3 stags each, but book early to reserve such a large hunting area.
