Red Stag stalking in Scotland

The season extends from 1st July to 20th Octpber. Some cull stags are shot in July and August at a cheap price when still in velvet, but most are shot in September and October as mature trophies.

Most hunters like to shoot from one to three stags and there are two ways to do this:

• Hunt for 5 or 6 days in the first 3 weeks of September

• Hunt for a few days in the last week of September and the first three weeks of October during the rut. At this time many places can shoot 10 or more stags in a week with a single professional hunter (stalker) and such weeks are best shared by 2 or 3 friends.

The cheapest accommodation for a single hunter is a small hotel or pub, groups of three or more can keep the price down by using a self catered cottage, which is let by the week.
